"Amigo" (stylized as "A.Mi.Go"; Korean title: "아.미.고") is a song written by Yoo Young-jin and performed by the South Korean R&B group Shinee.[2]

'Amigo', apart from meaning 'friend' in Spanish language, it is also a shortened version of the Korean phrase "아름다운 미녀를 좋아하면 고생한다" (Areumdaun minyeoreul johahamyeon gosaenghanda) which means 'if you love a beauty, you will suffer.'[3]

Korean version

The Korean version of "Amigo" was released as a track in the repackaged version of the group's first Korean studio album The Shinee World, renamed as Amigo.[4] The physical format of the album was released October 31, 2008 in South Korea under the label of SM Entertainment. The song was also released separately as a digital single on the same date.

"Amigo" was chosen as the lead single for the official promotions of the repackaged version of the album. The song was performed on various music and variety shows including Music Bank, Inkigayo, M! Countdown and Show Champion. The song was also performed by Shinee at their first independent 2010-11 Asian concert tour Shinee World.[5] Later the remixed rock version of the song went on to be included in the performance setlist of their second 2012 Asian concert tour Shinee World II.[6] It was also performed at the SMTown Live '10 World Tour and SMTown Live World Tour III.

Music video

The accompanying music video of the single was released on the official YouTube channel of SM Entertainment on the same date as the digital release of the studio album. The video revolves around the concept that depicts the Shinee members chasing and stalking a girl, portrayed by SM Entertainment trainee Kim Ye-jin, in a railway station.

Japanese version

The Japanese version of the song was released as a track in the regular edition of the group's first Japanese album, The First, which was released on December 7, 2011 in Japan under the label of EMI Music Japan. The lyrics were written by Shoko Fyhubayashi.[7] This version of the song was included in the performance setlist of the group's first Japanese arena concert tour Shinee World 2012 for the official promotions of the album.[8]
