American International School of Conakry
The American International School of Conakry (AISC) is an international school in Conakry, Guinea. It is a small private, coeducational day school, which offers an academic U.S. curriculum from nursery through grade 8. AISC teaches to the AERO Standards which are aligned with the US Common Core Standards. The school offers supervised correspondence studies for grades 9-12 through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Independent Study High School.
Curriculum
The school follows an American curriculum, which is supplemented to emphasize the international composition of its student population and faculty. Because of the size of the school most grades are combined (Nursery and pre-Kdg., grades Kdg. – grade 1, grades 2-3, grades 4-5 and grades 6-8). In addition to the core teacher there is a teacher assistant for grades Kdg. – 1. All students take instruction in French, art, computer, music, and physical education which are taught by specialist teachers. The high school program is a combination of courses taught at AISC and completion of independent study correspondence courses from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Facilities
AICS is located in Matam Lido, Corniche Sud, Conakry. The school is housed in two buildings with 12 classrooms, which include a library, a computer lab, a science laboratory, art room, and music room. The school is air-conditioned and has its own generator.
