The American International School of Bucharest (AISB) is a multicultural and international school located in the town of Voluntari, 5 km outside central Bucharest, Romania, set on a 10 hectares campus. English is the primary instructional language. The school was founded in 1962 by the United States Embassy. It is the only school in Romania authorized to offer students the entire International Baccalaureate (IB) program. This includes the IB Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma programmes.[7][8][9][10]

The school currently serves a population of over 1000 students from over 50 countries globally.


Education

Since 1997 the American International School of Bucharest is a accredited IB World School.[11] Both the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the international non profit Council of International Schools organization have accredited the curriculum. As of 2011-2012 academic year, total enrollment is at 754 students[12] with an average of 17 students[13] per class.

Technology In Education

During 2012 - 2013, AISB implemented a 1:1 Laptop program for all students between grades 5 - 10,[14] which later expanded during the 2013 - 2014 academic year to include all students from grade 5 - 12. The 1:1 laptop program encouraged other initiatives which included the implementation of an high speed 200mbps internet connection, improved access control with the printer infrastructure, and campus-wide WiFi internet access.[15]
