"American Dream" is a 2000 song by Jakatta. The track samples two Thomas Newman pieces from the soundtrack for the film American Beauty; "Any Other Name" and "Dead Already". A remix was released in 2001. The track is very unusual for a dance track, since the majority of the track is in 6/4 time, as opposed to the much more common 4/4.

Chart positions

The single peaked at #3 in the UK and #63 in Australia. The 2001 remix re-release peaked at #63 in the UK.

Trivia

A mellow remix of "American Dream" was used in the 2005 Dreamworks film Madagascar when Alex is lying on the beach and steaks begin to fall from the sky; this is also a strong connection to the movie American Beauty.[1] It is also used in a segment of the BBC documentary Inventions That Changed The World, as well as the Channel 4 documentary series The Secret Millionaire.

The track samples Thomas Newman's "Any Other Name".[2]
