American Appraisal Associates, Inc. is an independent, employee-owned consulting firm headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with nearly 50% of employees participating in the firm’s ownership. The Board of Directors is composed of senior executives as well as external Directors; international business executives and legal professionals. The firm focuses exclusively on valuation and related services; independent of any other attest, rating agency, investment banking or other conflicts.

American Appraisal provides valuation and related advisory services for business, financial, legal or tax purposes. American Appraisal provides clients with valuations for financial and tax reporting, fixed asset and risk management, consulting and compliance. American Appraisal's valuation business encompasses all classifications of tangible and intangible assets.

The firm was founded in 1896 by William M. Young and John L. Moon. In 1896, American Appraisal was founded in response to the emergent need for tangible asset valuations within the manufacturing sector. American Appraisal has continued evolving to address changing business standards, financial and tax regulations and industry practices.

Today, the company employs roughly 300 people in 60 locations around the world.[1] Publicly notable projects conducted by American Appraisal include, for example, a "fresh start" valuation of MCI's assets after its chapter 11 bankruptcy filing or the retrospective valuation of the World Trade Center for Larry Silverstein's court case.[2]

In February 2015, Duff & Phelps announced it had reached an agreement to purchase American Appraisal.
