Alzahra University (In Persian: دانشگاه الزهرا) is a female-only state-run university in Vanak, Tehran, Tehran Province, Iran. This university is now one of the top universities in Iran and has some progressive programs for future. [1]

History and profile

Founded in 1964 as a private institution under title of The Higher Educational Institute For Girls (In Persian: مدرسه عالی دختران), it was renamed Farah Pahlavi University after empress Farah Pahlavi, the wife of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. After the Iranian revolution, the university attained a public status, and was renamed Al-Zahra University, after Fatimah Zahra, the daughter of Muhammad prophet of Islam.

The university offers degrees in 67 areas, including 6 PhD degrees. Zahra Rahnavard was appointed as chancellor of Alzahra University on 23 September 1998.

In October 2013, the students at the university protested the rules of mandatory uniforms in classrooms imposed.[2]
