AlterVista is a free website and blog hosting company. It was founded in December 2000 by a university student, with a capital expenditure of 30.000 Italian lire (about 15 Euros).[2] AlterVista hosts approx. 1.7 million websites that together produce monthly 7.6 unique visitors Audiweb 2012 April and 1.5 billion page views.

AlterVista was initially launched on the Italian market, then on February 2010 was localized also in English.[3]
Advertising
AlterVista runs a revenue sharing system on online advertising. Ads are not forcibly inserted in the hosted blogs or websites but if the webmaster wants to display them in his pages he earns a revenue based on the web traffic.
