Almondsbury UWE F.C. are English association football club based in Almondsbury, near Bristol, England. They play in Division One of the Western League, and play at The Field. The current team name was adopted in 2009, when an agreement with the University of the West of England led to the name being changed from Almondsbury to Almondsbury UWE. The club is affiliated to the Gloucestershire County FA.

History

The club were founded in 1969 as Patchway North End, but changed their name to Patchway Old Boys in 1971, when they were playing in the Bristol Suburban League. They moved the short distance from Patchway to Almondsbury in 1989 and changed their name to Almondsbury and were promoted to the Gloucestershire County League two years later after winning the Bristol Suburban League title.

Almondsbury were champions of the Gloucestershire League in 2004 and won promotion to Western League Division One. A tie-in with the University of the West of England (UWE) was announced in 2009, resulting in the club changing its name to Almondsbury UWE.[2] In this year the Club also made its debut in the FA Vase losing to Cowes Sports in the First Qualifying Round 1–0.[3]

Following the resignation of neighbours Almondsbury Town from the Southern Football League Division One South & West in 2010–11, Almondsbury UWE became the premier side in the town. In this year the club also made its début in the FA Cup competition, making it to the Preliminary round.[3]
