Almetyevsky District (Russian: Альме́тьевский райо́н; Tatar Cyrillic: Әлмәт районы, Latin: Əlmət rayonı) is an administrative[1] and municipal[3] district (raion), one of the forty-three in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. It is located in the southeastern central part of the republic. The area of the district is 2,500.2 square kilometers (965.3 sq mi). Its administrative center is the city of Almetyevsk[2] (which is not administratively a part of the district).[7] Population: 51,100(2010 Census);[4] 40,624 (2002 Census);[8] 33,988(1989 Census).[9]

Administrative and municipal status

Within the framework of administrative divisions, Almetyevsky District is one of the forty-three in the republic.[2] The city of Almetyevsk serves as its administrative center, despite being incorporated separately as a city of republic significance[2]—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts.[7]

As a municipal division, the district is incorporated as Almetyevsky Municipal District, with the city of republic significance of Almetyevsk being incorporated within it as Almetyevsk Urban Settlement.[3]
