Allani Sridhar is an Indian screenwriter and film director in Telugu cinema. He made his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed biopic feature film, Komaram Bheem,[1] in 1988. He also showcased his acting skills in the film and played the role of “Kursenga Samu”, a bold revolutionary tribal soldier. Allani Sridhar also won the then Andhra Pradesh state Nandi Award for best film on national integration in 1990 for his film about the tribal legend Komaram Bheem.
Early life
Allani Sridhar was born to a farmer’s family in Medak district of Telangana state. The family got shifted to Hyderabad during his early childhood. He spent most of his childhood and youth days in Hyderabad. He finished his schooling from Andhra Vidhyalaya High School in Chikkadpally where he scored top grades in the school’s recent history then. Subsequently, he joined a polytechnic course only to quit it in the middle to pursue his love for movies.
Career
Writing
He began his career as a writer in a weekly magazine and wrote a serial story called “Campus, Campus” which was a huge hit in those days. It compiled a huge readership, particularly among college goers.
Direction
He has a unique mark in the industry by making films of unique genre. He made his entry into the industry as a director with his film on “Komaram Bheem”. With the very first film he won “Nandi” for best director by A.P. state government. From then, his saga went on tirelessly, making patriotic, devotional, love, friendship and comedy films. Not only in telugu he also made films in hindi, namely, “Tuhi Meri Ganga”, “Tathagatha Buddha” and “Goswami Tulasidas” thus making his Bollywood enrty. Apart from making regular cinema, he has also directed several super hit television serials, AD films, documentaries, educational films and awareness programs undertaken by the government of Andhra Pradesh. Looking at his wide variety of films, he is been called as a versatile director by many in the industry.
He received critical acclamation for his debut film, Komaram Bheem. Most of the critics called the cinema as an authentic film as it fetched out the genuine traditions of Gond tribals. This made Sridhar as a noted director in the industry who makes films in a unique genre.[2][3] Later he went on making films such as Raguluthunna Bharatham, Preme Naa Praanam, Uthsaaham, Chilkur Balaji,[4] Buddha and many more.
Positions Held
Allani Sreedhar has chaired several prestigious positions in the industry. Presently he is the “President” of “Hyderabad Film Club” and “Telangana Cinema Directors Association”. He was also a jury member in Nandi Tv awards committee (2004), Nandi film awards committee (2006), Nandi film awards committee (2011). Mr. Allani Sreedhar has set up his own production house called “Filmedia Productions Pvt. Ltd.” and is the managing director.
