Alizai (Pashtun tribe)
Alizai is a Pashtun tribe indigenous to southern Afghanistan and northern Pakistan. It belongs to the Panjpai confederation of the larger Durrani tribe of Ahmad Shah Durrani. They are also descended from Tareen.
Geographic distribution
The Alizai tribe mostly reside in the Loy Kandahar region of southern Afghanistan, Dera Ismail Khan (Mohallah Kiri Alizai) KPK and in the Chhachh area of Attock, Punjab, Pakistan. In Afghanistan they are especially concentrated around Helmand and Farah.) In 2007, Alizai tribesmen in the village of Musa Qala in Helmand, united under Mullah Abdul Salam fought alongside the Taliban. Mullah Abdul Salam later agreed to change sides and was appointed by Hamid Karzai as governor of Musa Qala district of Helmand Province.[1]
