Alif Allah (Jugni) (Western Punjabi: (الف اللہ (جگنی) (also known as Alif Allah Chambe Di Booti) (Western Punjabi: الف اللہ چمبے دی بوٹی) is a Pakistani Sufi Song sung by Arif Lohar and Meesha Shafi (also featuring Sanam Saeed as a backing vocalist) in Coke Studio.[1]
It is used in Cinema of Pakistan's Lollywood Punjabi movie Jugni. Jugni Ji literally in English means "female firefly".
Plot
Alif Allah (Jugni) song was about the praise of Islamic religious figures including Allah (God), Muhammad S.A.W, and Ali.[2]
Music
It was composed and sung by Arif Lohar with Meesha Shafi, and the lyrics were heavily inspired as well as incorporated 17th century Sufi poet Sultan Bahu, hymn, "Alif Allah Chambe Di Booti" (Western Punjabi: الف اللہ چمبے دی بوٹی).
Reception
Alif Allah (Jugni) became a household name after being sung by Arif Lohar and Meesha Shafi on Coke Studio Jugni became a massive hit, scoring over 17 million views on YouTube to date, and holding the record for the most viewed Pakistani song on YouTube ever.[3]
International Success
It is used in Cinema of Pakistan's Lollywood Punjabi movie Jugni. Due to the extreme popularity of the song, it was also later used in Bollywood film Cocktail and Diary of a Butterfly. In Cocktail, it was sung by Arif Lohar and Harshdeep Kaur.[4]
