Ali Sherwan

Beyrey (Ali Sherwan) is one of the largest Kurdish tribes of Ilam Province in Iran. According to the elders of the tribe,this tribe has been branched from Kurdish tribe of Sanjâbi in Kermanshah province. It consists of different clans and families : Ali sherwan which includes: Hiar wandi (Heydar wandi), Dara wandi, Safar wandi and Cheragh wandi. Maliman, Doosan(doostan), Zehwar, Hin mini, Jaberi, etc. The region inhabited by this tribe is southeast of Ilam city all the way to Dareh Shahr.

A branch of this tribe also live in islam abad gharb in Kermanshah province. A notable number of members of this tribe lived in Iraq as one of the main branches of Feyli Kurds in Baghdad but they were deported by Saddam Hussein's regime and now live mostly in Europe.

The Beyrey (Badrei) people speak Feyli dialect (Mahaki sub-dialect) of the Kurdish language.

A search was made in Iraq few years ago about the ancestors of Ali Sherwan tribe, and it appeared that Ali Sherwan was a descendant of the Islamic prophet Muhammad through Abbas Ibn Ali. The papers were signed by Ayatollah Mahmoud Al-Mar'ashi Al-Najafi.
