The name Algicola derives from:
Latin feminine gender noun alga, a seaweed; Latin suff. -cola (from Latin masculine gender or feminine gender noun incola), an inhabitant, dweller; New Latin feminine gender noun Algicola, inhabitant of algae.[2]
