The Algeria women's national football team (Arabic: منتخب الجزائر لكرة القدم للسيدات) represents Algeria in international women's football. The team is currently ranked 69th in the world in the FIFA women's rankings. The team's highest ranking was 64th, in June 2009.[1] The team is coached by Azzedine Chih. Algeria played its first match in May 14, 1998 against France, and lost 14–0.

Algeria has never qualified for a World Cup. It has qualified four times for the African Women's Championship, in 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2014, all finishing in group stage.

Beginning

Algeria played its first match in May 14, 1998 against France and was beaten 14–0, who today is still its worst result.

2004 African Women's Championship

Algeria qualified for its first African Championship in South Africa, after drawing 2–2 and winning 1–0 against Mali in the qualifiers. At the final tournament, Algeria was paired with Nigeria, Cameroon and Mali in Group B. Their opening match was against Nigeria, who was lost 4–0, after being 1–0 at the half-time. Second match was against Mali, won 3–0 with goals of Sedhane at 11 minutes, Imloul at 45' and Laouadi at 46'. Last match where against Cameroon, and ended with a 1–3 loss, with a goal of Imloul at 12 minutes, with this results, Algeria's road in the Championship ended.

2006 African Women's Championship

Algeria was set to start the qualifications in Round 1, against Libya, but it withdrew, the team advanced to Round 2 by walkover. Their rival in Round 2 where Egypt who both matches where won by 1–0 and 3–0, with the aggregate of 4–0, Algeria qualified to the 2006 African Women's Championship, who was held in Nigeria. Algeria where in Group A along Nigeria, South Africa and Equatorial Guinea. They played the tournament's inaugural match against South Africa, who was loss 4–0. Second match was against Nigeria and was also lost, but his time 6–0. Third match was a 3–3 draw against Equatorial Guinea with goals of Boumrar at the 35 minutes and Bouhani at 56 and 76 minutes. To the date, this was the worst participation in the African Championship of Algeria, having lost two matches, drawing one, scoring 3 goals, receiving 13 goals and ending 8th in the table.

2010 African Women's Championship

The team again entered to the qualification rounds, this time the rival was Egypt, but withdrew, because this Algeria advanced by walkover. The first round was against Tunisia. In the first leg, they draw 1–1 with goal of Laouadi at the 90+4 minutes, and in second leg they won by 1–0 by a 65 minute goal of Wadah, with an aggregate result of 2–1, Algeria qualified for its third African Women's Championship who was held in South Africa. Algeria was paired in Group B with Ghana, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon. Opening match was lost 2–1 to Ghana when it was 1–0 in favour of Algeria in the half-time, the goal was scored at the four minutes by Ouadah. Second match was again lost against Equatorial Guinea by 1–0. Closing match against Cameroon where also lost by 2–1 and a goal of Bouhani at the 55 minutes. These results made the elimination of Algeria.

2014 African Women's Championship

After not entering the 2012 African Women's Football Championship qualification, Algeria entered to the 2014 qualifiers in the First Round, against neighboring rivals Morocco, winning 2–0 in the first leg with goals of Bouhani at the 12 and 56 minutes; and a 0–0 draw in the second leg, thus advancing to the Second Round with an aggregate of 2–0. The Second Round was against Tunisia, where the first leg was a 2–1 victory thanks to the goals of Laifa at the first minute and Sekouane at the 45 minutes. The second leg was another victory, this time by 3–2, thus qualifying to the tournament in South-African country Namibia, by an aggregate of 5–3.

Algeria was paired in Group B, along with South Africa, Cameroon and Ghana. Their first rival was Ghana, which they won 1–0 by a goal of Houria Affak at the 87 minutes. The second clash was against Cameroon, that ended with a goalless loss of 2–0. The last match was against South Africa, who ended with an overwhelming 5–1 loss, again with a goal of Affak before extra time, at the 90 minutes. Algeria were once more eliminated from a World Cup.
