This name uses Spanish naming customs: the first or paternal family name is Putellas and the second or maternal family name is Segura.

Alexia Putellas Segura (born 4 February 1994) is a Spanish footballer, currently playing in Spain's Primera División for FC Barcelona,[2] with which she has played the Champions League[3] and won one championship and one national cup. Her goal in the 2013 cup's final made headlines.[4][5] She previously played for RCD Espanyol and Levante UD.[6]

After taking part in Spain's triumphs in the 2010 and 2011 U-17 European Championships,[7][8] she made her competitive debut for the senior national team in the 2013 European Championship, where she scored the overtime winner in Spain's 3–2 victory over England.[9][note 1] Putellas also played 90 minutes as Spain were eliminated in the quarter-final by Norway.

Putellas had won her first senior international cap in a 2–2 pre-tournament friendly draw with Denmark in Vejle.[10] The following day, national team coach Ignacio Quereda confirmed her as a member of his 23-player squad for the Euro 2013 finals in Sweden.[11]

Notes

  1. Although UEFA credit the goal to Putellas, other sources including the British Broadcasting Corporation attribute it as an own goal by England goalkeeper Karen Bardsley. Putellas failed to connect with Adriana Martín's left wing cross but Bardsley's face diverted the ball into the goal.
