Career
Early years
Starting as a centre forward, Stevenson began his career in the United States, before returning to Scotland to sign for Scottish League Division One hometown club Airdrieonians.[1]
Brentford
Stevenson moved to England to sign for Division Three South side Brentford in the summer of 1927.[1] After converting to a right back, he broke into the team during the 1928/29 season, making 21 appearances.[2] He was an integral part of the team and was part of the side which was promoted as champions to Division Two in the 1932/33 season.[2] Stevenson lost his right back position to new signing Jack Astley during the 1933/34 season, making just three appearances before departing the club at the end of the campaign.[1][2] In seven years at Griffin Park, Stevenson made 134 appearances.[1]
Southend United
Stevenson joined Division Three South side Southend United in the summer of 1934.[3] He made just 12 appearances for the struggling club in the 1934/35 season and departed in the summer of 1935.[3]
Ards
Stevenson saw out his career in Northern Ireland with a spell at Irish League side Ards, managed by former Brentford full back partner Tom Adamson.[1]
