Alexander Arnold (born 21 December 1992) is an English actor, best known for his role as Rich Hardbeck in the third and last generation of the E4 teen drama Skins.[3]

Early life

Arnold was educated at The Norton Knatchbull School in Ashford, Kent, where he pursued his interests in Art and Drama in his GCSE choices.[4] He performed Lucille Fletcher's The Hitch-Hiker for his final performance and received a B grade. Outside of school, he has been involved in several plays with Ashford Youth Theatre and attended The National Youth Theatre for two years.[5]

Career

Arnold made his professional debut in the fifth and sixth series of the E4 teen drama Skins, playing the keen metalhead Rich Hardbeck. He got the role while at sixth form through the open audition process in London.[6]

In September 2011, he starred in the music video "Death Cloud" by Cloud Control, alongside Sam Palladio. It's a story of two tense guys in a van, and a strange creature ill-equipped to survive in our world. Directed by the award-winning Luke Snellin, it was shot in Spain for two days.[7]

Arnold has been announced as appearing in a short film called Moths, written and directed by Todd Wearn for Stuffed Fox, a Production Company formed by students at the University of West London.[8]

In May and June 2012 he filmed in London and Suffolk a two-part ITV drama called A Mother's Son, written by Chris Lang and first screened on September 2012. It's the story of an ordinary mother (Hermione Norris) tormented by her suspicions that her son Jamie, played by Arnold, may be capable of murder.[9] In 2013 he appeared in the BBC Three zombie drama In the Flesh, written by Dominic Mitchell and directed by Jonny Campbell, and in the third series of crime drama Vera.[10] He also earned a starring role as Adam in the television series What Remains.[11] In 2015 he will be in the cast of Poldark, a new BBC series based on The Poldark Novels starring Aidan Turner.[12]

Arnold has landed his first big screen role opposite Eva Green in the 2014 western The Salvation, shot in South Africa.[13]

Personal life

Arnold can play the bass guitar[14] and is lead vocalist in an Indie/Post-punk band from Ashford called Circuithouse.[15][16]

In April 2011 he donated a painting of his childhood Bear to The Bristol Autism Project, which provides an essential service to the Autistic children of Bristolwon by a Canadian fan. This helped fund Sensory play for ASD children of ages 5–16.[17] [18]
