"Alex from Target" (born January 21, 1998) is an Internet viral phenomenon. A photo was taken of Alex Lee, a teenage Target employee from Frisco, Texas, while he was bagging groceries.[1] Twitter user @auscalum came in possession of the photo and shared it on the social network, while user @_twerkcam re-shared the photo adding the hashtag "#alexfromtarget". The photo then "went viral", becoming a trending hashtag on Twitter worldwide, and the phenomenon was covered by popular news sources, such as CNN and BuzzFeed.[2]

Alex gained over 300,000 Twitter followers within 24 hours of his new-found fame and many spin-offs of the meme were created, such as "Kieran from T-mobile","Dequan from Staples",and "Steve from Starbucks".[3][4] He was eventually interviewed by Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show.[5]

On November 12, 2014, the New York Times reported that Alex and his family have become victims of cyber-bullying and death threats.[6]

In a video released by Lee on February 7, 2015, he "quit" his job at Target and going on tour with DigiTour with other viral video teen celebrities. He is going to be in the upcoming Indiegogo-funded film, Shadows Will Fall, a movie about a young boy with cystic fibrosis, as well as releasing his own music. Lee is also selling T-shirts, calendars and posters on his website, alexleeworld.com.[7]
