Alex George is a former Grand Prix motorcycle road racer from Glasgow Scotland. His best year was in 1975 when he finished in seventh place in the 500cc Grand Prix world championship.[1] He was tenth in the 500 class in 1973. He finished on the podium (in third place) at the 1975 500cc Czech GP, the 1975 350cc Dutch TT and the 1977 500cc Austrian GP, and had a number of other top six results in the 500, 350 and 250cc GP classes. He also competed in the F750 Class on a 750cc Yamaha and won the Bol D'Or on his first attempt riding for Honda France. His third place in the 1977 Austrian GP came about as a result of a rider boycott of the race following a tragic accident in the earlier 350cc race.
George was a road circuit specialist and was a three-time winner at the Isle of Man TT.[2] His most famous victory came in 1979 when he beat pre race favourite Mike Hailwood who had returned to racing motorcycles after a short Formula 1 Grand Prix career. Serious injuries sustained while competing in the 1982 Isle of Man TT ended his competitive career.
