Alex 'Superman' Johnson (born January 18, 1988) is a Canadian professional basketball player playing for the NBLC's Mississauga Power.
National Basketball League of Canada
Johnson is the first ever Canadian to be drafted first overall in the NBLC draft.[1] Johnson was acquired from the now inactive Ottawa Skyhawks for Bol Kong on November 19, 2014.[2]
In his first season playing professionally in Canada, Superman was nominated to become a NBLC All-Star along with Mississauga Power teammate, Morgan Lewis. [3]
After leading the Mississauga Power franchise to its first playoff appearance in their inaugural year, Johnson will return for a second year to continue the momentum from last season. This upcoming 2014-2015 season Johnson will have additional star power help with the re-signing of NBLC All-Star Morgan Lewis and re-acquired Tut Ruach.[4][5]
Sponsorship
On October 2, 2014, the Mississauga Power announced their partnership with BioSteel Sports Supplements Inc and Peak Sports Canada. Johnson was selected to be the featured player to display the new Peak Sports Canada jersey and BioSteel Sports Supplements Inc product.[6]
This the second significant sponsorship announcement in the basketball market for BioSteel Sports Supplements Inc. Earlier in the summer BioSteel Sports Supplements Inc became the exclusive sports drink provider for Canada Basketball.[7]
Outside Basketball Activities
On April 16, 2014, the NBA Toronto Raptors unveiled their new commercial to showcase their new marketing campaign - We The North.[8] Mississauga Power had a presence in this commercial as Superman had a special cameo in it.
Superman also runs his own basketball clinic called the "Alex 'Superman' Johnson Skills Academy".[9][10]
College career
Before playing professionally, Superman played for NCAA Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners[11] and North Carolina State University[12]
