Aleksandar Ljubomirov Kolev (Bulgarian: Александър Любомиров Колев; born 8 December 1992) is a Bulgarian footballer who currently plays as a forward for Botev Plovdiv.[1]

Career

Early career

Born in Sofia, Kolev began his career in the Levski Sofia youth academy. He moved to Belgium with his family when he was 15 years old and joined local side Dessel Sport.[2]

Kolev made his first team debut for Dessel Sport in a 2–1 home win over K.S.V. Oudenaarde on 12 February 2011.[3] One month later, he scored his first goal in a 2–2 away draw against Olsa Brakel.[4]

After good seasons in Dessel, Kolev joined Belgian Second Division team ASV Geel. [5] He made his debut for the team in a match agaist White Star Bruxelles[6]

Botev Plovdiv

On 4 August 2014 Kolev signed a contract with the Bulgarian team Botev Plovdiv. [7] Kolev made a debut for his new club five days later. He came in as a 86 minute substitute at the dramatic 3-3 draw with Litex Lovech. [8] Kolev was included at the starting lineup of the match for the Bulgarian Supercup against PFC Ludogorets Razgrad. Unfortunatelly he received a red card at the end of the first half. During the second half Ludogorets scored three goals and won the game with a final score 3:1.[9] Despite the red card the fans gave a warm welcome to Alex Kolev.

Kolev was initially playing for Botev Plovdiv with number 92 but he took the shirt with number 9 after the departure of Hamza. [10]

On 24 Augusty 2014 Kolev was includuded at the starting lineup and helped his team to win the game against Slavia Sofia with 2:0. [11] Despite having a minor injury Kolev came in as a substitute in the next round of A Grupa when Botev Plovdiv achieved 2-1 away victory against PFC Haskovo. [12]

Aleksandar Kolev scored his first goal for Botev Plovdiv on 23 September 2014 when he came on as a substitute and scored the third goal for the 0-4 away win against Lokomotiv Mezdra in the first round of the Bulgarian Cup tournament.[13] On 28 October Kolev scored again in the next round of the Bulgarian Cup tournament. He scored a late equaliser in the derby game against Lokomotiv Plovdiv. [14]

International career

In August 2012, Kolev was called up for the Bulgarian U21 squad.[15] He made his debut in a 1–1 friendly draw against Macedonia U21 on 14 November 2012.[16]

In September 2013 Kolev scored during the 1-3 away defeat of the Bulgarian U21 team from Russia U21.[17]

Kolev scored a goal for Bulgaria U21 in the 2-2 draw with Estonia U21 on 3 September 2014. [18]
