Alexander Robert "Alec" McLean (born 18 October 1950 in Wellington, New Zealand) is a former New Zealand rower who won an Olympic Bronze medal. At the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal he crewed the eight along with Tony Hurt, Ivan Sutherland, Trevor Coker, Peter Dignan, Lindsay Wilson, Athol Earl and Dave Rodger and Simon Dickie (cox).
Member of New Zealand rowing eight 1974 - 1976. Bronze medallist at World Rowing Championships, Lucerne, Switzerland 1974; bronze medallist at World Rowing Championships, Nottingham England, 1975.
A long-serving Parliamentary private secretary to Prime Ministers and Ministers in the New Zealand Government until November 2008, Alec then worked as deputy official secretary to Governors-General of New Zealand from 2009 to 2010 (Sir Anand Stayanand) and 2011 to 2012 (Lt Gen Sir Jerry Mateparae). From March 2012 Alec returned to Parliament as private secretary to David Shearer, Leader of the Opposition. In October 2014 Alec commenced work as Property Manager at Caniwi Capital, Wellington, New Zealand
Alec was made a member of the Queen's Service Order (QSO) in the New Zealand 2009 New Year Honours for services to New Zealand.
