The Albury-Wodonga Bandits play in the South Conference of the SEABL (South East Australian Basketball League) in the ABA. They won the conference championship in 2001 and then endured a luckless existence, several times on the brink of extinction with large financial debts. In 2011 they won just 3 games but in 2012 under new coach Brad Chalmers they achieved a fairytale result after making the playoffs for the first time since their 2001 championship then going on to win the conference championship against Knox Raiders 77-69 and then the SEABL national championship against Dandenong Rangers 65-63. The Lady Bandits entered the SEABL's women's competition in 2006 with Opals captain, WNBA MVP and Albury native Lauren Jackson playing in the team's first game. Jackson scored 45 points against the Nunawading Spectres and led the team to a thrilling one-point win. Since then, they have been largely uncompetitive until the 2009 season, with New Zealand Tall Ferns assistant coach Ken Kereama taking the reins, and with the addition of New Zealand international players Lisa Wallbutton and Toni Edmondson, made the SEABL play-offs for the first time in their four-year history.
