Alberto Carlos Bastos Lopes (born 22 October 1959) is a Portuguese retired footballer who played mainly as a centre-back but could also operate as a defensive midfielder
Over the course of 9 seasons, Bastos Lopes amassed Primeira Liga totals of 139 games and seven goals.
Club career
Born in Lisbon, Bastos Lopes progressed through Benfica youth system, arriving in the first team after a loan spell at Estoril-Praia. However, in Benfica's defence of the early eighties he competed with Humberto Coelho and Oliveira, and in the midfield , with Shéu, and Strömberg, all established players, so he appeared only as a substitute on most occasions.[1][2]
He left for Belenenses in 1 August 1984, representing them for one year, and having other spells at Penafiel and Braga. In 1988, he nearly signed for Deportivo de La Coruña, but didn't pass on his medical.[3][4]
He then started a managerial career that spread through numerous clubs on lower leagues.
International career
Nascimento represented Portugal at the 1979 FIFA World Youth Championship, helping it to the quarterfinals.[5]

Personal life
He is the younger brother of António Bastos Lopes, a much more acknowledge footballer, which represented Benfica in nearly 400 official matches.[6]
