AlarmForce Industries Inc is a home security systems manufacturer and provider. AlarmForce manufactures, installs and monitors home alarm systems in Canada and select states in the United States. AlarmForce Inc. manufacturing base is in Toronto. AlarmForce operates in the residential and commercial security segment.
History
Origins
AlarmForce was founded in 1988 by Joel Matlin, who served as Chief Executive Officer until July 2013. In 1969 Matlin founded another security company named Frisco Bay Industries. In 1988 he sold Frisco Bay Industries to his business partner and set up “AlarmForce Industries Inc.” AlarmForce now develops products for both the residential security, medical alert and video surveillance markets in North America.
The proprietary model
AlarmForce initially relied on franchisees to distribute to the major markets in Canada. However, it soon gave up the franchisee model to use its own resources for expansion. This model proved to be more successful and AlarmForce adopted it on a permanent basis. Today, AlarmForce manufactures, installs and monitors its own security systems using its own proprietary technology, without outsourcing any of the processes. AlarmForce went public in 1997.
Product launches
The company launched a two way voice alarm system called AlarmVoice in 1991. This was followed by the launch of AlarmPlus in 2000, and in early 2008, the personal emergency response system AlarmCare.[1] In October 2011, AlarmForce launched VideoRelay, a video surveillance system with live two-way voice.[2] In 2014, AlarmForce Connect was launched giving users the ability to control their alarm system remotely from their smartphone.[3]
American expansion
In November 2004 AlarmForce began its US expansion with its entry to the state of North Carolina. In December 2006 AlarmForce entered Ohio and this was followed by entry into Georgia, in 2007. In 2010 AlarmForce entered the state of Minnesota. In April 2011, the home alarm company expanded into the State of Florida. AlarmForce now services 11 major US centers located in Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, Greensboro, Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Atlanta, Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Tampa Bay-St.Petersburg, Sarasota and Orlando.
