Alan Solomons (born 31 July 1950 in Uitenhage, South Africa) is a rugby union coach, currently the head coach at Edinburgh.

History

After studying law at the University of Cape Town, Solomons left law to pursue professional his rugby coaching career with Western Province in 1997, where he also became involved with the Stormers.

He then took up a coaching position with the South Africa national rugby union team under Head Coach Nick Mallett.

In 2001, he joined Irish rugby team Ulster, where he coached them to a three year unbeaten home record in the Heineken Cup. In 2004, he joined the Northampton Saints for a short spell.[1]

In 2006, he was appointed as a High Performance Consultant at the IRB.[2] He was also involved in coaching the Barbarians.

In June 2010, he was also appointed Director of Rugby and Head Coach at the Kings franchise and the Eastern Province Kings union.[3] In 2012, Matt Sexton was appointed as head coach, with Solomons remaining as Director of Rugby.

In 2013, he was appointed as the head coach of Edinburgh Rugby.[4]
