Alan Hall
Alan Hall (born 1952) is a cell biologist and a biology professor at the Sloan-Kettering Institute, where he is chair of the Cell Biology program. Hall is a Fellow of the Royal Society, a position he has held since 1999.
Early life and education
Hall grew up in England. He earned his BA in chemistry from Oxford University. He began his studies for a Ph.D. at Oxford, but after a few months he followed his major professor Jeremy R. Knowles to Harvard University, where he earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry. He then took postdoctoral fellowships in molecular biology at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Zurich.[1]
Career and research
In 1981 he went to work at the Institute for Cancer Research in London, where he stayed for 12 years. In 1993 he moved to University College London, where he helped to create a new molecular cell biology. In 2000 he became director of that program. He moved to Sloan-Kettering as chair of the cell biology program in 2004.[1]
Hall studies the role of Rho and Ras GTPases in regulating animal cell biology.
