Al Muntazah

Al Muntazah is a well-known supermarket chain in the Kingdom of Bahrain. It is believed to be the biggest supermarket chain in the kingdom. Al Muntazah Supermarkets is the subsidiary of Almeer Group which was founded in the 1940s by Jalal Almeer (1923-2000).

Al Muntazah Supermarkets were founded in the early 1980s. Cigarettes, alcoholic beverages and pork are not sold in any of the branches. In 2002 the supermarket chain led a consumer boycott of American brands against Israel's hostility towards Palestinians in West Bank and the Occupied Territories.[1] In 2012, Qatari company Muntazah Oryx Investments (unrelated despite the name) attempted to purchase brand licensing in order to expand the Al Muntazah supermarket brand in Qatar, but the deal fell through after Muntazah Oryx failed to make the required payments to the Almeer Group.

Al Muntazah supermarkets have also actively participated in the boycott of Danish products currently ongoing in the Middle East region. (see: Muhammad cartoons)

Al Muntazah has branches in Manama, Muharraq, Kazeno, Qalali, Rifa'a, Arad, Hamad Town, Hoora, Sitra and Isa Town.

Almeer Group, has five main concerns: Almeer Establishment for sanitaryware, Al Muntazah Supermarket, Al Muntazah Computers, Al Muntazah Travel and Herfy fast food restaurant.
