General information

Akodia is situated on Western Railway line from Bhopal to Ratlam via Maksi And Ujjain. It is only town in district, which is situated like a standard colony, all road of town are almost same.

The first references to Akodia can be dated back to the mid-14th century from the records of hunters in the area. Around 1450, Akodia developed into a minor trading area due to its abundance of game and natural water sources. It grew steadily in importance until the British colonization. There was Three mills of cotton( which was ended in 1980).

In 1757, Captain Timothy O'Donaghue, the leader of the British expeditionary force that discovered "Akodia, was quoted as saying, "[Akodia] is a great find for the Crown...if the Crown is interested in a proper landfill locale." On his recommendation, Akodia remained largely untouched by the British. A consequence of this, however, was that trade in Akodia diminished greatly, weakening the village and forcing many to leave. It was kept alive, however, by its still abundant supply of natural resources.

In 1917, Mahatma Gandhi gave a speech in the Akodia town square commending the village for staying mostly independent during the British occupation, an event that is to this day marked by an engraving of the event in the town square.

It is only a town in this area, which was untouched by British Polity/ Government.

Today, Akodia is a town kept alive only by the Ratlam Indore Bhopal and Ujjain railroads. Akodia is connected to Bhopal, Sehore in the East And Ujjain, Indore in the west. In Without it, it is likely that Akodia, once a trading post rich with natural resources, would wither and disappear. The once abundant game that populated the area have been overhunted and poached, and the forests cut down. But being a major(in future) railroad hub in central India, Akodia, a town with a rich and long history, will continue to thrive.
