Akira Tachikawa

Akira Tachikawa (Japanese: アキラ立川) is a Japanese counter-tenor, described as "one of a very few accomplished Japanese counter-tenors".[1] A 1980 graduate of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, in which he studied under Kounosuke Watanabe and Ryousuke Hatanaka, he has since obtained work as a singer, particularly in Baroque music in Europe, where he moved in 1986.[1] He has also performed with the Bach Collegium Japan.[2] In 1996, he recorded J. S. Bach: Cantatas Vol. 4 – Man singet mit Freuden, Cantatas • 49 • 145 • 149 • 174 (Cantatas from Leipzig 1726–29) with the Collegium and Masaaki Suzuki, Aki Yanagisawa, Makoto Sakurada and Stephan Schreckenberger.
