Martina Aileen de las Alas , professionally known as Ai-Ai de las Alas (born November 11, 1964), is a Filipino actress of film and television, dubbed as the "Philippine Queen of Comedy" and "Comedy Concert Queen". De las Alas first gained nationwide recognition for her movie Ang Tanging Ina which became a blockbuster hit. Due to the movie's popularity, it received a TV series spin-off with Alas again taking the lead role. The movie eventually spawned two sequels; "Ang Tanging Ina N'yong Lahat" and "Ang Tanging Ina Mo (Last na 'To!)".
Personal life
De las Alas is the daughter of Engr. Rosendo de las Alas (1920–2008) and Gregoria de las Alas née Hernández (died 30 December 2013), and was later adopted by her spinster aunt, Justa de las Alas.[5][6][7] She earned a Mass Communication degree from Far Eastern University (FEU) in 1985.
She was married to actor Miguel Vera and had two children; de las Alas also had a son from a previous relationship.[3] Before acting, she worked as a sales lady in a department store and also performed as a stand-up comic in comedy bars around Metro Manila.[8] She married 28-year old American businessman Jed Salang on April 3, 2013. Her marriage to Salang, who is 20 years her junior, ended after a month, with de las Alas confirming their separation on May 19.[9][10]
Career
De las Alas has done several movies including blockbuster hit Ang Tanging Ina produced by Star Cinema. It was followed by more comedy films like Volta where she played a superhero, which spun off into a television series. In the noon-time television show MTB: Ang Saya Saya she was one of the lead hosts. In prime-time teleseries, she played an important role in the TV remake of Bituing Walang Ningning as Dorina's mother. She has also acted in the films Ang Cute Ng Ina Mo, Ang Tanging Ina N'yong Lahat and Pasukob.
She also released her first album with Star Records entitled Ang Tanging Ina Nyo, featuring six novelty tunes, with tracks including "Tanging Ina Nyo", "Volta", "Dance-phabet", "Tong Twalya", "Si Manloloko" and "Super Papa". On November 4, 2014, De las Alas was interviewed by TV Patrol on set of a music video filming on the night of November 3.[11] During the November 9 episode of ASAP 19, she premiered her song "Nandito Lang Ako" and revealed that she will be going under the stage name of ADA. She stated that she was inspired by Jennifer Lopez's nickname J.Lo.[12]
Her contract with ABS-CBN has expired and she inked a 2 year exclusive contract to GMA Network after 16 years of staying in ABS-CBN. Her last show in the kapamilya network is the remake of Dyesebel starring alongside Anne Curtis.
