The 12009/12010 Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express is a super fast express train of Shatabdi class belonging to Indian Railways that runs between Mumbai Central and Ahmedabad Junction in India. It is a 6 days a week service. Earlier it would operate excluding Fridays, later it was changed to exclude Sundays.
It operates as train number 12009 from Mumbai Central to Ahmedabad Junction and as train number 12010 in the reverse direction.
Coaches
The Ahmedabad Shatabdi generally has one AC Executive Class coach, 13 AC Chair Car coaches, two luggage cum generator coaches. The train runs with the Linke-Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches. The number of coaches is added / removed as per the demand on the train. Catering is arranged on board the train.
Service
Despite its premier status, it is the 3rd fastest train on the Mumbai – Ahmedabad Sector after the 12267/68 Ahmedabad Duronto Express & 22903/04 Bandra Terminus Bhuj AC Superfast Express. It used to run six days a week excluding Fridays after the exclusion day became Sunday.
It covers the distance of 491 kilometres in 6 hours 45 mins as 12009 Shatabdi Express (72.74 km/hr) & 7 hours 5 mins as 12010 Shatabdi Express (69.32 km/hr)
Traction
Dual traction WCAM 2/2P locos would haul the train between Mumbai Central & Ahmedabad Junction until at least March 2012 although Western Railways completed DC Electric Conversion to AC on 5 February 2012.
It is now regularly hauled by a Vadodara based WAP 5 locomotive.
Timetable
12009 Shatabdi Express leaves Mumbai Central every day excluding Sundays at 06:25 hrs IST and reaches the Ahmedabad Junction at 13:10 hrs IST.
On return, the 12010 Shatabdi Express leaves Ahmedabad Junction every day excluding Sundays at 14:30 hrs IST and reaches the Mumbai Central at 21:35 hrs IST.
Being a Shatabdi it returns to its originating station Mumbai Central at the end of the day.
