Africultures is a publication of arts and culture about and from Africa and its diasporas, founded in 1996 and based in France, in Les Pilles and Paris. The magazine is managed by the association Africultures and it is published by L'Harmattan. Since 2012 all the documentation produced by the magazine and all its database made of over 80'000 biographies of artists and description of books, music, films and institutions is released under the open Creative Commons attribution share alike license.

Activities

Every issue of the magazine Africultures is devoted to a specific topic and it includes news and reviews of events, books, music, films, theatre and dance. The session "diaspos" is focussed on African migrations.

Africultures implements an online archive of artists, films, music, books and institutions based in Africa or working in Africa. The multilingual archive released with the Creative Commons attribution share alike license is on the Africultures website[1] and on SPLA Sud Planète,[2] a joint multilingual collaboration among several international partners.[3] SPLA Sud Planète has produced national portals of cultural information for Burkina Faso,[4] Mali[5] and Cameroon.[6]

Africultures also publishes books.

Afriphoto is a collection of books about African photographers, among which Abel Sumo Gayvolor, Isaac Hudson Bruce Vanderpuje, Ganiyu Owadi, Gerald L. Annan-Forson, Philippe Koudjina, Mamadou Konaté, Francis Nii Obodai Provençal, Paul Kabré, Germain Kiemtoré, Zaynab Toyosi Oduns, Malick Sidibé, Bill Akwa Bétoté, Omar D. and Gabriel Fasunon.
