In policy debate, the affirmative (AFF) is the team which affirms the resolution. The Affirmative side negates the negative side.

The affirmative team speaks first and last. They give four speeches:

• First affirmative constructive (1AC)
• Second affirmative constructive (2AC)
• First affirmative rebuttal (1AR)
• Second affirmative rebuttal (2AR)
