Advanced Train Control System
"ATCS" redirects here. For other uses, see ATCS (disambiguation).
An Advanced Train Control System, usually called ATCS, is a system of railroad equipment (hardware and software), designed to ensure safety by monitoring locations of trains and locomotives, providing analysis and reporting, and automation of track warrants and similar orders.[1]
ATCS specifications are published by the Association of American Railroads (AAR), and are designed to document the stated requirements of railroad operational and technical professionals concerning ATCS hardware and software.[2] These specifications are designed to facilitate compatibility and standardization without limiting the internal design approaches of individual suppliers.
