Adrian & the Mysterious D
DJs Adrian & the Mysterious D (née Adrian and Deidre Roberts) – a.k.a. A Plus D – are widely recognized as the DJ duo who helped bring mashup and bootleg culture to America. Based in San Francisco, the couple started the Bootie (club night) in 2003, the first mashup bootleg party in the United States. In 2005, they started a sister Bootie club in Los Angeles, and in 2007, launched Bootie parties in New York City and Paris, and in 2008, Munich and Boston.[1]
Under their bootlegger moniker, A Plus D, they have created dozens of mashups, often utilizing underground and alternative artists for their bootlegs.
They have been nominated twice – 2004 and 2006 – in the "Best DJ" category in the SF Weekly Music Awards.[2]
In August 2007 in San Francisco, they staged "The A+D Show" at the DNA Lounge, a multimedia mashup show that mixed DJing with video and live performance. In August 2008, they staged the sequel "Revenge Of The A+D Show" at the Bootie 5-Year Anniversary Party.
The duo have also played in Europe and Asia, with gigs in London, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Munich, and Copenhagen, and most recently Hong Kong, Beijing and Australia.[3][4][5]
