In his freshman season at Memphis, Thomas saw action in the first 16 games of the season before missing the next 16 contests as a result of an ankle injury (torn superior lateral peronneal tendon retinaculum) that required surgery and rehab, only managing to returned to action in the postseason. In April 2013, Thomas signed with an agent and declared for the NBA draft, foregoing his final two years of college eligibility.[3]
