Adnan Malik (Urdu: عدنان ملک) is an Pakistani television actor, model, documentary filmmaker, video and music video producer, commercial and music video director, Visual storyteller and former VJ.[1] His documentary Bijli earned him numerous awards including Best Short Film at Kara Film Festival in 2003.[2] Adnan made his television debut as an actor in Sadqay Tumhare,[3] which earned him a Hum Award for Best Actor Popular nomination at 3rd Hum Awards.
Early life and education
Adnan was born in Lahore, Punjab to a Muslim family.[4] His father is a successful doctor. Adnan gets his early education in Lahore, and went on to receives his degree in economics in US but he dropped out and took admission in film-making at Vassar College.[5]
Career
Documentaries
After studying film-making in US, he started working on directing documentaries, such as Why We Fight which cited as one of a "best American Documentary" at Sundance Film Festival 2005. He also once own a t-shirt company "Urban Turban" in NYC.[6] Adnan came back to Pakistan in 2005 and made a short subject documentary Bijli which earned him a great attention and acclaim winning Best Short Film at Kara Film Festival, Delhi Digital Film Festival and was finalist at Students Academy Awards 2003.[2] His second documentary long form Bhuli Hui Hoon Dastaan gave him further success as documentary filmmaker.[7]
TV commercials and Music videos
Adnan has also done modeling with famous clothing brands and was a VJ at MTV.[8] He serves as a associate video producer and behind the scene producer at Coke Studio for four years.[9] Malik then directed and produce numerous tv commercials for Djuice, Telenor, Walls, Toni & Guy, LUX etc. He also directed a music video for Levi's "Mera Bichra Yaar" in collaboration with Strings and Zoe Viccaji which earned him a Best Music Video Director at 11th Lux Style Awards. In 2012 he directed/produced a video My Punjabi Love For You for "Bumbu Sauce",[10] featuring Aamina Sheikh and Rizwan Ali Jaffri.[11] In addition he has also directed Lux Style Awards ceremonies for four years.
Acting
Adnan marked his acting debut in 2014 Hum TV's romantic drama serial Sadqay Tumhare[12] opposite Mahira Khan, where he portray Khalil as passionate lover.[13] His performance in serial led him through wide spread acclaim and success, he describes his experience in serial as "personal growth".[14]
Production House
Adnan owns a Boutique Media Production House "Adnan Malik Production (AMP)", where Malik directs/produced TV commercials, documentaries, music videos and photography.[5]
