Biography

Adam Gubman was born April 7, 1979 at Anaheim, California. Born and raised in Southern California, where he currently lives,[1] Gubman spent also a part of his adolescence in Plymouth, Minnesota. Gubman started to become passionate about music when his grandfather introduced him to "Deluxe Music Construction Set" on the Amiga computer in 1984[3] (he loved clicking in the notes and randomly generating compositions). Gubman started to play piano and to compose music at the ripe young age of 7 years old,[3] and kept cultivating his passion throughout childhood and adolescence by playing in and out of bands all through high school, and by participating in marching bands and show choir.[6] He became passionated about videogames as well in the meantime. Then, in 1997 Gubman begun attending the California State University at Long Beach, from which he took a break until 2003, when he resumed his studies,[5] and completed his education by obtaining a degree in Musical composition and Theory in 2006.[6]

Career

Gubman entered the music industry in 1994 by releasing the album "Sunday Rain" under an indipendent record label.[1] The album has been realized with the participation of notable artists, such as songwriter/producer Andy Dodd and singer Kevin Odekirk. Right after graduating from high school in 1997, Gubman worked for producer C. J. Vanston in Hollywood, and assisted on projects with Michael Bolton, Carole King, and the Christopher Guest's film "Best in Show".[3] In January 2000 Gubman created his publishing-company, the "Gubman Music International", of which he is the director to this day.[7] After a small parenthesis as a pop-producer in the early 2000's, Gubman took the decision to come back at University and completing his formation. During this period, he produced music for several indie artists, worked on a few indie movies' scores, kept teaching piano, and wrote his first musical, entitled "The Recital". In 2006, right after graduating from University, Gubman entered the videogame industry by co-working, along with composer Jeff Kurtenacker, to the soundtrack for the videogame "Pirates of the Burning Sea", a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Flying Lab Software and published by Sony Online Entertainment.[2] Recognition that comes with his work provides Gubman the opportunity of working as a contract composer for companies like "SomaTone Interactive Inc." and "Non-Stop Music". Since then, Gubman's work has been featured on hundreds of videogames (of which many are published by the most important software houses), TV commercials, TV news packages, etc.[3] Gubman's notable collaborations include singer Traci Hines,[8] violinist Taylor Davis,[9] composer Austin Wintory and the "Critical Hit band"[10]. As a contract composer, Gubman has written for many high profile projects including NBC television broadcasts of the "2012 Winter Olympics", the "2012 Presidential Elections" and the "2011 Royal Wedding". In 2013, under the direction of Warner/Chappell Music, Gubman replaced the "NBC Today Show" theme song, which has been previously written by John Williams.[1]
