Adam Thomas Chicksen (born 27 September 1991) is an English footballer who plays for Sky Bet Football League One side Fleetwood Town on loan from Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion.

Career

Milton Keynes Dons

He joined the Milton Keynes Dons Dons academy as a 14-year-old in July 2006 and was handed a two-year scholarship at the start of the 2008–09 season.[1] He is the first, and apart from Mark Randall, only player born in Milton Keynes to play for the Dons. He attended St Paul's Catholic School.

Chicksen debuted for MK Dons first team in pre-season match against Reading in July 2007. His first league match was against Leicester City on 9 August 2008.[2] His second appearance later came, a week later on 22 August 2008, playing 90 minutes, in a 2-1 loss against Cardiff City.[3] After making six appearance in the 2009-10 season, Chicksen signed his first professional contract on a two-year deal with the club.[4] After this, Chicksen expressed his delight to sign a contract.[5] Though he made fourteen appearance in the 2010-11 season, Chicksen signed another contract with the club.

In the opening game of the 2011-12 season, Chicksen made his first start as a right-back, in the opening game of the season, in a 2-2 draw against Hartlepool United.[6] However, Chicksen soon lost his first team place as a left back to Dean Lewington[7] and was loaned out to Leyton Orient on a one-month loan on 1 January 2012[8] and impressed on his first game for The O's as they beat Stevenage 1–0.[9] After making three appearance for Leyton Orient, Chicksen made his return to Milton Keynes Dons.[10] Despite making three appearance for Leyton Orient, Chicksen described playing for them as "great experience to the footballing world having not been away from the Dons before".[11] Chicksen made a return in the first team as right-back and helped MK Dons reach to the play-offs place, where he assisted the first goal of the game, but it wasn't enough, as MK Dons lost 3-2 on aggregate.[12] At the end of the season, Chicksen's contract with MK Dons was activated on a 12-month options.[13]

In 2012-13 season, Chicksen's display as a right-back earned him a Team of the Week, in the opening game of the season, which saw MK Dons beat Oldham Athletic 2-0.[14] On 13 November 2012, Chicksen scored his first senior goal in the FA Cup first round replay against Cambridge City.[15] On 23 February 2013, Chicksen scored his first league goal in an Npower Football League One league 1 fixture against Carlisle United.,[16] followed up the following week, with his second league goal in the next game, against Preston North End, smashing home from close range.[17] Despite often being used in first team ins and out in his first season with thirty-two appearance, Chicksen was offered a new contract with the club.[18] However after weeks of negotiations, Chicksen's future remained uncertain despite Manager Karl Robinson's confidence of keeping him at the club.[19][20]

Brighton & Hove Albion

On 14 July 2013, Chicksen signed a three-year contract with Brighton & Hove Albion on a free transfer.[21] However, Chicksen's age at the time led Brighton & Hove Albion pay undisclosed compensation fee to MK Dons.[22] Upon his move to Brighton, Chicksen was given number 15 shirt.[23]

Chicksen's debut was delayed because of ankle injury sustained in a pre-season friendly.[24] and made his return on 19 August 2013.[25] It took for Chicksen made his debut for the club until 30 December 2013 when he made his debut, coming on as a substitute for Stephen Ward after sustained a concussion during the match, in a 1-0 win over Blackpool.[26] After the match, Chicksen reflected to his debut, saying he waited for a long time.[27] Chicksen made another appearance, making his first start, in the Championship play-off semi final 2nd leg, in a 2-1 loss against Derby County.[28] Chicksen ended his first season with five appearance in all competitions.

In his second season at Brighton, Chicksen playing time increase in the first team until the arrival of Joe Bennett dispatch his first team place as a left-back.[29] Chicksen made another appearance on 21 October 2014, in a 1-1 draw against Huddersfield Town after Bennett absence to unknown reasons.[30] With his first team opportunities limited, Chicksen joined Gillingham on loan on a one-month deal on 15 November 2013.[31] Chicksen made his debut for the club the same day, making his first start as a left back in a 3-2 win over Leyton Orient.[32] After making three appearance for the club, Chicksen loan spell with Gillingham came to an end.[33]

Chicksen made his first appearance on 12 December 2014 since his loan at Gillingham, in a 1-0 loss against Millwall.[34] On 27 February 2015, Chicksen joined Fleetwood Town on a month's loan.[35] Chicksen made his Fleetwood Town debut, the next day, in a 3-0 loss against Chesterfield.[36] Having made five appearance until 1 April 2015, Chicksen's loan spell with Fleetwood Town was extended until the end of the season.[37]
