Acquia is a software-as-a-service company co-founded by Dries Buytaert and Jay Batson to provide enterprise products, services, and technical support for open-source web content management platform Drupal. It is financed by venture capital, receiving $118.5 million in six rounds.[3]

Growth

In 2013, Acquia was named the Fastest Growing Private Technology Company in North America by Deloitte[4] and remained in the Deloitte's Fastest 500 the next year.[5] In a May 2013 press release, the company stated that it has over 3,800 enterprise customers; that its hosting services handle over 2.5 billion HTTP requests per month; and that year over year revenue grew 108 percent between 2012 and 2013.[6] On August 21, 2012, Acquia was named #8 on the Inc. (magazine) 500 list for 2012, the #1 software company and #8 company in Boston.[7] On August 22, 2013, Inc. (magazine) 500 fastest growing private companies list, Acquia was ranked #8 in Software and overall #109 in the list.[8][9][10][11]

On May 27, 2014, the company announced closing a $50M Series F funding round, bringing the total investments to $118.6 million. The cash influx will be used to build out sales and marketing, including adding more channel partners.[12] In August 2014, Amazon made an undisclosed investment in Acquia, which the company plans to use to continue to build its platform for both commerce and content.[13]

Acquia surpassed $100 million in revenue for 2014, up 46 percent from 2013[14]
