Development
Gautham Menon announced in October 2013 that he would produce and direct a film featuring Silambarasan in the lead role, after plans for a venture titled Dhruva Natchathiram featuring Suriya that was shelved after months of pre-production and delays in production, wasting the actor's dates.[4]
In an interview with Bangalore Mirror, Menon stated that the film was originally titled Sattendru Maarathu Vaanilai,[2]
Casting
In December 2013, A. R. Rahman was officially confirmed to compose songs. Dhilip Subbarayan was signed on as stunt choreographer. Though previously Marc Koninckx was reported to handle cinematography, Dan Macarthur was confirmed.[5] Shooting commenced while the team was still in the process of casting a female lead opposite Silambarasan. By end December 2013, reports stated that Pallavi Sharda had signed a two film contract with Photon Kathaas and would feature as the lead female in the film.[6] However, Menon clarified that it was not Pallavi Sharda, but another actress Pallavi Subhash. He conducted a screen test, auditions and a ten day workshop before signing her for the film.[7]
Filming
Filming began in mid-November 2013 with a ten day schedule in Adyar, Chennai. Scenes featuring Silambarasan and Sathish Krishnan were shot.[8] Further, the shooting progressed during the nights, in and around Kalakshetra and Thiruvanmiyur.[5] A second schedule began in early December 2013 featuring scenes with the lead cast in urban Chennai.[9] The film was shot for thirty days and was put on hold until Menon completed filming Yennai Arindhaal.[2]
The filming is set to continue from February 21, 2015 onwards.[2]
Music
A. R. Rahman's inclusion in the project was confirmed by December 2013. As per the urgency of shooting, a single track with lyrics penned by Madhan Karky was recorded within three hours by the composer at his studio in Los Angeles.[10] Recording of the songs recommenced from February 2015.[2]
Release
The film was initially titled Sattendru Maaruthu Vaanilai in December 2013. The title refers to lyrics of the song "Nenjukkul Peidhidum", from Menon's 2008 film Vaaranam Aayiram.[11] However, the title could not be retained as the producers K. Ethiraj and Dr. Saravanan completed a different film with the same title which was censored and tax exempted.[12]
A fifty second teaser of Menon's film that was released on 3 February 2014.[2][13] However in February 2015, the title was identified as Achcham Enbadhu Madamaiyada.[14]
