Achanta Vemavaram is a village in Achanta Mandalam, West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, India. The village has fertile paddy fields, sugar cane and coconut plantations.

Temples

a Shiva Someswara Swami temple, Kesava Swami Vishnu temple, a Saibaba temple, a Durga temple, a Ramalayam temple and several other temples. The Durga temple and Saibaba temples are both very old; the Durga temple was recently re-constructed. The most important temple is Maremma Temple (grama devata). It is 400 years old temple and re-construct the new temple in the place of old one in progress.

Etymology

Following the donation of an Agraharam to a Veda Pandit by Shri Ana Vemareddy, who ruled this area, the name of the village became Vemavaram (Vema Varam).

About People

60% of the people in this village belongs to the Karnabhaktas (weavers community) and live below poverty line. The villages remaining inhabitants rely on agriculture.
