Acer laurinum is an evergreen tree in the Aceraceae family, reaching 40 metres (130 ft) in height. It has a trunk with scaly, red-brown coloured bark. The leaves are glabrous, and lack stipules. It has white coloured flowers, followed by paired samaras. It is the only member of its family native to the Southern Hemisphere, with a distribution encompassing Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, India (Assam), Indonesia, Laos (Khammouan), Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, and Thailand.[1]
