Acanthocobitis is a genus of ray-finned fish in the Nemacheilidae family.
Species
There are currently nine recognized species in this genus:[1]
- Acanthocobitis botia (F. Hamilton, 1822) (Mottled loach)
- Acanthocobitis longipinnis W. K. H. Peters, 1861 (species is currently considered incertae sedis in Kottelat 2012)
- Acanthocobitis mandalayensis (Rendahl (de), 1948)
- Acanthocobitis mooreh (Sykes, 1839)
- Acanthocobitis pavonacea (McClelland, 1839)
- Acanthocobitis pictilis Kottelat, 2012[2]
- Acanthocobitis rubidipinnis (Blyth, 1860)
- Acanthocobitis urophthalma (Günther, 1868) (Banded mountain loach)
- Acanthocobitis zonalternans (Blyth, 1860)
Occurrence
The genus is known to parts of south Asia, where the species within this genus chiefly occur as high trophic level freshwater demersal taxa. For example, A. botia (mottled loach) is one of the native demersal fishes of the Indus River.(C.Michael Hogan. 2012)
