Global distribution

Acanthiophilus is a predominantly Afrotropical genus. One species, A. helianthi is also found in Europe on the Italian mainland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia. Outside of Europe, it can also be found in the Near East region, [4] as well as at the Canary islands, in India and Sri-Lanka.
