Acadia Divinity College (ADC) is a seminary of the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches and is located on the campus of Acadia University in Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley. The College operates as the Faculty of Theology at Acadia University and is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada.

ADC shares facilities with Acadia University; the college's library is part of the university's 800,000 volume Vaughan Memorial Library collection. Also hosted at Acadia University are the Esther Clark Wright Archives, which includes an extensive collection of material relating to the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches.

History

Acadia University was founded in 1838 and Acadia Divinity College was established in 1968 after the Board of Governors of Acadia University voted to reduce the role of the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches in the governance of the university, thus effectively making Acadia University a secular school. The establishment of Acadia Divinity College was one of the concessions the Board of Governors made to the Convention.[1]

Programs

ADC offers the Master of Divinity (MDiv) with majors in Evangelism and Mission, Pastoral Care and Counselling, Leadership and Spiritual Formation, Prison Chaplaincy, Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care, and Youth Ministry; Master of Arts (Theology) (MA(Th)) in Biblical Studies (Old Testament, New Testament, Second Temple Judaism), Theology, Christian History, Practical Theology, Prison Chaplaincy, Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care; and the Doctor of Ministry degree. As the Faculty of Theology for Acadia University, ADC offers a three-year (90 credit hour) Bachelor of Theology, one stream for those seeking ordination to the Christian ministry; and one for general interest.
