The Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF), established in 1996 is a non-profit organization in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates which aims to complement the city's cultural vision. ADMAF develops art, cultural and educational programs with leading national and international organizations, institutions and individuals.[1][2] ADMAF serves under the Presidency and Patronage of HE Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It operates with the guidance of selected advisors from diverse sectors and fields; led by founder Hoda I. Al Khamis-Kanoo.

Goals

• Promote the role of music and arts in cultural cooperation

• Feature Abu Dhabi as a prominent international cultural destination[3]

• Establish art and cultural educational programs at the Universities and Schools[4]

• Stimulate interest and awareness in Arab culture & heritage

• Inspire creativity among national and international students of Abu Dhabi

• Establish ties with parallel national and international cultural organizations

• Expansion of the National Library that was established by ADMAF in 2002

• Support Arab artists[5]

• Support young national talent

• Contribute to the creation of a permanent collection of contemporary Arab art in Abu Dhabi

• Establish research and documenting initiatives

• Advance comic strip and cartoon art as a creative medium of communication

• Encourage the participation of young nationals in all creative fields

ADMAF Activities

• ADMAF is best known for the annual Abu Dhabi Festival. Previous years have seen international performances from the Bolshoi Ballet, Andrea Bocelli, and Magida El Roumi.

• Established (2004) the annual Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Festival (This event is held under the Patronage of HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi).

• Created (2007) the bi-annual International Comic Strip & Cartoon Art Festival (This event is held under the Patronage of HE Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research).

• ADMAF founded the Abu Dhabi Young Press Leaders Program (2008) to encourage the direct involvement and participation of young nationals in the process of reading, writing and journalistic reporting.

• ADMAF has attracted international cultural events to Abu Dhabi, such as the “Ibn Khaldoon - Senghor” Award for Translation, presented for the first time during the International Francophone Week, organized by ADMAF, and for the first time ever held in a non-francophone country (This event was held under the Patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Primer Minister).

• ADMAF produces and supports art and cultural publications.

• Educational programs: ADMAF provides artistic and cultural educational programs (including lectures, internships, scholarships, awards, workshops, master classes, etc.…) to national and international students. ADMAF provides educational programs (lectures, workshops, master-classes) to the public of Abu Dhabi. ADMAF offers educational programs at various venues: university campuses, Abu Dhabi schools, where national students are best able to participate. This allows direct interaction between the students and the visiting artists, professors and scholars.

• ADMAF offers Awards to support and promote young national talent from Abu Dhabi’s universities and recent graduates in the fields of visual and performing arts, literature and film: Annual Creativity Award (established 1999) Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Festival Award (established 2004) Comic Strips & Cartoon Art Festival Award (established 2007)

Funding

ADMAF seeks funding for its operations, cultural events, awards, festivals and educational programs from various public and private sources.
