Abhi Subedi (Nepali: अभि सुवेदी; born on June 30, 1945) is a Nepali poet, playwright, linguist, translator and critic, who writes in Nepali and English.[1]

Biography

Abhi Subedi was born in Sabla village of Tehrathum district in eastern Nepal as the 21st child of his father and the 7th child of his mother. He recognised Bengali letters before Devnagari scripts after seeing his mother read Bengali epic Kashiram Das's Mahabharata when he was young. [2] He earned a Ph.D on the pragmatics of poetry from Tribhuvan University and did postgraduate work Stylistics and Applied Linguistics at Edinburgh University.[3]

Subedi started as a teacher of English in Tribhuvan University and after returning from Europe started teaching stylistics at Tribhuvan. Later, he headed Department of English in Kirtipur. [4]
